Back To Taylors Falls

This is a short documentary of my first drinking experience.  To all my buds who were there, I tried to do this justice, but had to cut so many different events to keep this video at 10 minutes.  It was hard to not get lost in the details.  Only about one third of what we went through that weekend is covered on this video. (by the way, hover over 360p and chose 720pHD if you want to watch in high def, but it may take a while to buffer)

I can see now that drinking entered into my life as a very positive experience, which may be a part of why it became so prominent in my life afterwards.  Perhaps subconsciously every drinking experience was an attempt to recreate this first one.

Forgive me if it gets too touchy-feely, but this place to me represents my growing up, where memories before this trip seem like when I was a little kid, and memories after seem like when I was more of a young man.

Coming up on one month sober.  More on that next post.

  2. Whoops- sorry Mark, I accidentially deleted your comment. Until he gets it back up there - he basically said that he started at 17 as well, and that it was easier to buy liquor underage in 1998, so long as you knew where to go.

  3. Actually I was 18. But it was our senior year in high school. I still remember the night well too. That day, I had attended a lecture in psychology and it just so happened to be the day that the teacher talked to us about how alcohol works. How getting drunk works on the body. But I also remember trying to pretend like it wasn't affecting me. I did that the first few times. I don't know if it was a macho thing, like I was trying to show that I was invulnerable to the affects, like Legolas.

FYI: my screen name, which I will be changing soon here because I'm tired of looking at the name, is the name of Barney Gumble's video that he made on the Simpsons. See below.

  4. This is Mychal. Wes, honestly great my friend. It really brought me back and I found it rather emotional. I miss those days, and yet I know we can never have them back, only remember them fondly and learn from them. What a testament to all of us that our friendships are all still solid and will always be. That night shaped it, and continues to....

  5. Thanks Myke, I am really glad you liked it. I had all you guys in mind when I made it - I was bummed I couldn't find Tyler's name in the rocks. I have all kinds of footage I had to cut, maybe I'll make a full length version and send it to each of you for Christmas or something.
